As you watch this video, look for how the trainer:

  • Builds on a participant’s comment
  • Illustrates a point using CLASS language

The trainer also:

  • Smiles and laughs with participants
  • Affirms and validates a participant’s comment

In what ways can teachers connect the words they use to the objects and activities in the classroom? What are some examples of advanced language a teacher might incorporate into the classroom?

Practice
Go to your CLASS Video Library and watch a video that is not about Language Modeling. Using the Language Modeling dimension as a lens, take notes about the interactions seen in the video. Sort your notes according to indicator. Then rewrite some of the teacher’s dialogue with the children so that it illustrates more effective Language Modeling.
