Show Regard and Sensitivity For Your Participants

In this clip, CLASS training expert Mary-Margaret discusses how to avoid participant "shut down" and maximize engagement by taking a sensitive approach to your facilitation of training videos.

Takeaway Tips:

  • Ask general "dimension level" questions ("What evidence did you see for Positive Climate?") rather than asking participants to share evidence indicator by indicator, especially for the first training videos.
  • Do the "heavy lifting" by sorting dimension-level evidence from participants into the correct indicator. This models what participants will need to do on their own later in the training and eventually, in the field.
  • Avoid singling out participants who are not reliable on the training videos by asking for evidence "that led to a reliable code" (rather than saying, "Raise your hands if you scored a 4, 5, or 6").
