CLASS® is a data-driven framework of continuous improvement. It defines teaching quality through the lens of interactions and enables you to measure and improve those interactions that matter most for children’s growth outcomes. To make real progress, you need to be intentional and comprehensive. CLASS offers a strategic model and resources that align with a plan-do-study-act approach. It empowers an ongoing pathway toward improvement with flexible offerings to meet your needs.
As you implement CLASS, you will
- FOCUS on effective educator-child interactions and create a shared understanding of quality in your program and how it relates to child learning outcomes,
- MEASURE the quality of interactions to create a system that enables data-driven improvement, and
- IMPROVE teaching quality through tailored and individualized professional development.
Continuous quality improvement is constant, especially when referring to nurturing early childhood development, and CLASS is here to support you on your journey.
In 2008, the CLASS measurement tool was created to observe and measure educator-child interactions in the field. Since then, the educational landscape has changed significantly. As a result, in 2022, Teachstone created CLASS 2nd Edition. The enhancements to the entire CLASS Measurement Suite focus on balanced outcomes, expanded reach, and measuring for impact. These improvements were implemented while building on and preserving the foundational concepts that make CLASS the standard for measuring and improving classroom interactions. One key change was the evolution of the language used in CLASS dimensions, indicators, and behavioral markers. This adaptation ensures that the tool is applicable across various settings and promotes consistent scoring across observers.
CLASS 2nd Edition reflects and supports the educational communities we serve, provides an approachable implementation process across all age levels, and gives educators actionable insights surrounding experiences that nurture children's developmental success.

This self-paced online course introduces educators to CLASS concepts and how to incorporate them into their daily interactions with children. Participants will learn what to expect from CLASS Observations, increase their understanding of effective educator-child interactions, and reflect on their own teaching practices to find areas of improvement. In addition, all enrolled educators will receive access to the CLASS Learning Community. This course is offered in English and Spanish.

The quality relationships developed through Banking Time are proven to positively impact the learning and development of children while equipping you with the tools you need to support every child.

Both training programs build capacity, hone facilitation skills, and help scale CLASS implementation. However, there are key differences. A Measurement Trainer more holistically supports a program's CLASS implementation by providing professional development opportunities across leaders, observers, and educators. An Interaction Essentials Trainer is mainly focused on deepening CLASS knowledge amongst educators in their programs.
